“Keep it real,” a phrase that has saturated hip-hop culture since it’s infusion into the fabric of the American social construct.  This phrase has defined legends such as Tupac and Biggie, as well as catastrophic failures (remember Vanilla Ice?). Very seldom do we find an emcee so easy to love, and more importantly, so hard to hate. Quill has been performing professionally for large crowds since 12 years old. Trained by, as he puts it, “God and drive”, he has honed his theater and spoken word poetry roots into what has been considered to be one of the most energetic and entertaining hip-hop acts in North Carolina.

Born in Hartford, CT and raised between Plainfield, NJ and Charlotte, NC, the only child of his parents’ brief marriage, Quill’s perspective echoes the sentiment of an entire generation. “He has a way of keeping you listening,” says INKified Inc. artist and producer Razon. “When we first met, I said ‘Thank you for actually being able to rap.’ People can’t really rap anymore.”

Quill transcends the confines of genre, category, or stigma. He has brought spoken word to the most unexpected audiences ranging from nightclubs to car shows, and brought grass roots, “conscious” hip-hop back to the forefront in the southeast. WHAT MAKES ONE DIFFERENT? Sometimes it is simply the courage to stand out by being one's self. To go right when it is so easy to go left. Quill is the epitome of this theory. From Florida to Michigan, from churches to nightclubs, colleges to middle schools, the hood to the burbs; Quill has the ability to reach EVERYONE, no matter what background, and make them see the total picture. He has opened for artists ranging from Shareefa to Saul Williams to Patti Labelle to political activist such as Al Sharpton. Quill is not just an artist; he is a FORCE, as a force affects everything it comes in contact with. Being purpose driven in a world that promotes mediocrity makes his impact that much more relevant.
