Younger children may not have these fears themselves “but they may pick up on the fears of their older brothers or sisters but not have the maturity to deal with it as their siblings can.

Now this isn’t an exhaustive list. It is simply a sampling of some of the common reasons for separation anxiety in children that are listed to prompt you look at wider issues too.

So if a child you know is getting clingy or showing more signs of not wanting to be apart from from loved ones then look for the obvious – but also look more deeply. Take the time to talk with them and find out whats worrying them. Assure them and explain in a way they can understand whats going on – but most of all make sure they know they are loved and cared for like no-one else on earth.
